Is It a Sin to Get an Abortion?

This is a heavy question, and Scripture does treat unborn life as precious and known by God, so many understand ending a pregnancy as a grave matter. But the Bible never singles out any woman for condemnation here, and its overwhelming word to the hurting is forgiveness, healing, and welcome. There is no sin His grace cannot reach.

What Scripture actually says
The Bible speaks tenderly of God's knowledge of life in the womb: the psalmist says God formed his inward parts and covered him in his mother's womb, that he was fearfully and wonderfully made, and that God saw him unformed. Because of passages like these, many Christians understand unborn life as precious to God, which is why abortion is felt as a weighty thing. But Scripture is just as clear about mercy: as far as the east is from the west, so far hath He removed our transgressions from us, and, though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. The same God who values the unborn extends full, unshaming forgiveness to the hurting.
Grace, not a scorecard
So please, if you have had an abortion, or are facing that decision now, hear grace and not condemnation. So many women carry crushing guilt, grief, or shame alone, often after pain, fear, pressure, or impossible circumstances. God does not meet you with a stone; He meets you with compassion. There is no sin that places you beyond His forgiveness, and there is real help, people and ministries who will walk with you, without judgment, through grief, healing, and whatever comes next. This is really about Jesus
Jesus was known for going straight to the people religion condemned, and offering them not shame but mercy and a new beginning. To a woman the crowd wanted to stone, He said, neither do I condemn thee. He took every sin, including the ones we can barely speak, to the cross so that no one who comes to Him is turned away. Whatever weight you are carrying, He offers to lift it and to make you whole. His arms are open, His forgiveness is complete, and His love for you does not depend on your past. Come to Him as you are.

Is having an abortion an unforgivable sin?
No. There is no unforgivable sin except the final rejection of God's mercy itself. However you understand what happened, God's forgiveness reaches it fully and completely when you turn to Him (Isaiah 1:18; Psalm 103:12). You are not beyond His grace, and you are not defined by this.
I had an abortion and I am overwhelmed with guilt. What do I do?
Please hear that God meets you with compassion, not condemnation. Bring the grief and guilt honestly to Him; His forgiveness is full, and He heals. You do not have to carry this alone.
