Is It a Sin to Drink Alcohol?
No, drinking alcohol is not a sin in itself. The Bible treats wine as a normal part of life and even a gift, while it warns sharply and repeatedly against drunkenness. The line Scripture draws is not between drinking and abstaining, but between grateful moderation and losing control.

What Scripture actually says
The Bible never bans alcohol outright. Jesus turned water into wine, Psalm 104 calls wine a gladdener of the human heart, and Paul told Timothy to take a little for his health. At the same time Scripture is blunt that wine mocks and strong drink rages, and it commands, be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess. So the consistent teaching is that alcohol is a good thing easily abused: fine in measure, dangerous in excess, and to be handled in a way that glorifies God, whether you eat or drink.
Grace, not a scorecard
That means freedom with real love attached. A Christian can drink in moderation with a clear conscience, and a Christian can abstain entirely, and neither is holier. But freedom is never the whole story. If alcohol has a grip on you, if it is medicating a pain or hurting the people around you, then the loving thing is to stop, and there is no shame in needing help to do it. Paul also said he would give up a freedom rather than cause a weaker person to stumble. Love, not license, is the rule.
