Grace and truth, honestly

Is It a Sin to Eat Pork?

Mark 7:19

No, eating pork is not a sin for a Christian. The Old Testament food laws set Israel apart for a season, but Jesus declared all foods clean, and the New Testament plainly frees believers from those dietary rules. What you eat does not commend you to God; the heart does.

“Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?”Mark 7:19

“For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:”1 Timothy 4:4

“Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:”Colossians 2:16

What Scripture actually says

The law once forbade pork to Israel, but the New Testament teaches those laws pointed forward and were fulfilled in Christ. Mark records that Jesus, in what He taught about defilement, declared all foods clean. Paul wrote that every creature of God is good and nothing is to be refused if received with thanksgiving, and told the Colossians to let no one judge them over food or drink. Peter was shown a vision releasing him from the old dietary code. So Scripture is clear: pork is not off limits to those in Christ.

Grace, not a scorecard

So enjoy your food with a clear conscience and gratitude. This is not a gray area; the New Testament settles it. If some believers still choose to avoid pork out of conviction or heritage, that is their freedom too, and Romans 14 tells us not to look down on one another over it. What matters far more than the menu is the heart of thankfulness and the refusal to make food a measure of holiness, whether we eat or abstain, we do it unto the Lord.

This is really about Jesus

Jesus moved the whole conversation from the plate to the heart. He taught that it is not what enters a person that defiles, but what comes out of the heart. He came to cleanse not your diet but your soul, and He offers Himself as the true bread that satisfies the deepest hunger. Freedom about food is a small window into the larger freedom He brings: no longer earning God's favor by rule-keeping, but receiving it as a gift.
