Bible verse

Psalm 103:1

Psalm 103:1

“Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.”

Psalm 103:1 (King James Version (public domain))

What it means

The psalmist preaches to himself, summoning his whole inner being to bless the Lord. Worship is not always a feeling that arrives on its own; sometimes we must call our own soul to attention and remind it Who God is. Everything within us has reason to praise, for in Christ every benefit is ours: forgiveness, healing, and steadfast love. When gratitude feels far away, speak to your own heart as this psalm does, and turn its gaze back toward the God who saves.
