Lamentations 3:22

Lamentations 3:22

“It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.”

Lamentations 3:22 (King James Version (public domain))

What it means

These words rise out of ruin and grief, which makes them all the more startling. Even in the wreckage, the writer sees that he is still standing, and he credits God's mercy for it. The Lord's compassion has no expiration date; it meets us fresh each day. When we feel we should have been undone by now, grace explains why we are not. In Christ this mercy has a face and a name, poured out at the cross and renewed every morning we open our eyes.
