Bible verse

Hebrews 11:1

Hebrews 11:1

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Hebrews 11:1 (King James Version (public domain))

What it means

Faith is not a leap into the dark. The writer calls it substance and evidence, a real grip on things we hope for and cannot yet see. It gives weight to God's promises now, before they arrive. This is how the saints of old lived, leaning their whole lives on what God had said. Our faith has an anchor, the risen Christ, who makes the unseen certain. To trust Him is not to pretend but to stand on the surest ground there is.
