The Workers in the Vineyard
Everyone received the same wage, and grace looked unfair. (Matthew 20:1-16, King James Version (public domain))
A landowner hires workers throughout the day, some at dawn, some near dusk, and pays them all the same. Those who worked longest complain, but he answers that he is not unjust, only generous.
What it means
God's grace is not a wage we earn but a gift He gives, and His generosity to the latecomer takes nothing from anyone else. The last are first; no one who comes to Him, early or late, is shortchanged.
