The Prodigal Son

A younger son demanded his inheritance early, left home, and squandered it all. Starving and ashamed, he rehearsed an apology and turned back. While he was still far off, his father saw him, ran, and threw a feast, for his son who was lost had come home.
What it means
This is the clearest picture Jesus ever painted of the heart of God: a Father who watches the road, runs to the returning sinner, and restores rather than shames. The older brother, cold and dutiful outside the party, is the other kind of lost. Grace is undignified, eager, and it moves first.
