The parables of Jesus

The Sower

The same seed, four kinds of soil, four kinds of heart. (Matthew 13:1-23, King James Version (public domain))

A farmer scattered seed. Some fell on the path and was eaten, some on rocky ground and withered, some among thorns and was choked, and some on good soil and bore a great harvest.

What it means

The seed is the word of God; the soils are the states of a heart that hears it. Jesus is honest that not every hearing takes root, and He invites us to become good soil: to hear, hold, and let the word bear fruit through trouble and time.
