The Fruit of the Spirit: Self-Control

Galatians 5:23 · King James Version (public domain)

Self-control, or temperance, is the Spirit-given mastery over appetite and impulse, the freedom to say no to what would enslave. It is not white-knuckled willpower but the fruit of a heart increasingly ruled by Christ. As He grows on the throne of our desires, we are set free to choose the good.

How it grows

Fruit is grown, not forced. It appears as we stay joined to Jesus like a branch to the vine. Read Galatians 5:23 on The Living Bread, ask Simon how to grow in self-control, and ask the Spirit for it today. You are welcome exactly as you are.
