Broken bread and a cup glowing in warm sacred light.

Bible verse

Romans 12:12

Romans 12:12

“Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;”

Romans 12:12 (King James Version (public domain))

What it means

Paul gives three companions for the Christian life: rejoice in hope, endure through trouble, and stay faithful in prayer. Hope keeps us joyful when circumstances are hard, because our hope is anchored in Christ and His unbreakable promises. Patience carries us through affliction, knowing God is working even now. Prayer keeps us tethered to Him rather than to our fears. When suffering tempts you to give up, hold these together. The risen Jesus is our living hope, and He meets those who keep coming to Him in prayer.
