Bible verse

Mark 12:30

Mark 12:30

“And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.”

Mark 12:30 (King James Version (public domain))

What it means

Asked for the greatest command, Jesus answers with the call to love God completely, with heart, soul, mind, and strength, holding nothing back. This is what we were made for, and also what we have failed to do. The wonder of the gospel is that Christ loved the Father perfectly in our place and gave himself for us, and now his Spirit stirs in us a love we could never manufacture. We love him because he first, so fully, loved us.
