Bible verse

John 13:34

John 13:34

“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.”

John 13:34 (King James Version (public domain))

What it means

On the night before his cross, Jesus gives his people a fresh command: love one another. What makes it new is the measure, we are to love as he has loved us, with a love that stoops, serves, forgives, and finally dies for the beloved. This is no vague sentiment but the family likeness of heaven. As we receive his love, it overflows toward each other, and the watching world sees whose we are by how tenderly we carry one another.
