Broken bread and a cup glowing in warm sacred light.

Bible verse

John 14:27

John 14:27

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

John 14:27 (King James Version (public domain))

What it means

As he prepares to leave, Jesus wills his followers a parting gift greater than any inheritance: his own peace. The world hands out a fragile calm that depends on things going well, but his peace holds even in storms because it flows from his finished work and unbroken presence. He tells troubled, fearful hearts to be still. This is not denial of trouble but the deep rest of belonging to the One who has overcome the world and will not leave us orphaned.
