Broken bread and a cup glowing in warm sacred light.

Bible verse

Luke 6:31

Luke 6:31

“And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.”

Luke 6:31 (King James Version (public domain))

What it means

Jesus gives a simple, searching rule for how to treat others: do to them what you would want done to you. It flips our instinct to demand our own due and asks us to imagine ourselves in another's place. This is love made practical, spilling into everyday kindness, patience, and fairness. We can live this way only because Christ first treated us far better than we deserved, meeting our deepest need at the cross and teaching our hearts to extend the same grace outward.
