“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
What it means
Before anything was made, Christ already was. John names Jesus the Word, the eternal speech of God who was with the Father and was himself fully God. Our Savior is not a creature or a latecomer but the One through whom all things came to be. This anchors everything: the babe in the manger and the man on the cross is the everlasting God, come near to make the Father known and to gather us home.
