A Prayer for the Hungry Around the World
It is a hard thing to hold in the mind: at this very moment, a child somewhere is going to sleep hungry, a mother is dividing too little food among too many, a family in a famine-struck region is waiting for aid that has not come. The scale is almost too big to feel, and it is easy to look away because looking hurts and doing something feels impossible. But you have not looked away, or you would not be here. God has not looked away either. He calls Himself the one who gives food to the hungry, and He invites you to join Him in caring about the very people the world forgets. Bring the hungry of the earth, near and far, to the God who feeds His creation.

A prayer you can pray
Father, You give food to the hungry, and tonight the hungry are many. I lift up every empty plate and aching stomach on this earth: the children in famine-struck lands, the families in war zones cut off from aid, the poor in wealthy cities who quietly go without. See them, Lord, each one by name. Send rain to dry fields and open roads to blocked convoys. Multiply what the relief workers carry. Move the hearts of the powerful toward the vulnerable, and stir Your church to open its hands. Forgive us where our tables are full and our eyes are closed. Make me one who draws out my soul to the hungry and does not turn away. Give us this day our daily bread, and through us, give it to others. In the name of Jesus, amen.

Pray this and then let it change what you do, because Scripture ties prayer for the hungry tightly to action. God is the one "which giveth food to the hungry," and He tells us through Isaiah that if we "draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul," our own light will "rise in obscurity." Proverbs says that the one with "a bountiful eye" who "giveth of his bread to the poor" is blessed. So pray, and then give: to trusted food-relief organizations, to your local food bank, to a neighbor you know is struggling. Jesus said that whatever we do for the hungry, we do for Him, so treat generosity as worship. Let your household waste less, share more, and pray by name for the regions in famine that rarely make the news.
The One who hears this prayer
When a hungry crowd of thousands had followed Jesus into a remote place with no food, His friends wanted to send them away, but Jesus refused; He took a few loaves and fish, gave thanks, and fed them all. He would not treat hunger as someone else's problem. He also said, with startling directness, that when we feed the hungry we are feeding Him, and when we ignore them we ignore Him. That is how closely He identifies with the starving of the world. When you pray for the hungry, you pray to the One who is both the Bread of Life and the friend of the poor, and He receives every crust you share as given to Himself.

World hunger is so vast. Does my small gift really matter?
It matters enormously to the one it reaches. You cannot feed the whole world, but you were never asked to; you are asked to give of your bread to the poor, and that faithful act ripples further than you can see. A single meal can carry a child through a critical week. When many people each do their small part, whole villages are fed. Do not let the size of the problem talk you out of the good you can actually do.
How do I make sure my donation actually reaches hungry people?
Give through established, transparent organizations that publish how their funds are used and have a track record in the regions they serve. Look for groups working directly with local communities, since they often deliver aid more efficiently. Recurring gifts help agencies plan ahead better than one-time surges. And pair your giving with prayer for the workers on the ground, who face real danger and obstacles getting food to people that governments and armies sometimes block.
Is it enough to just pray for the hungry, or do I have to do more?
Prayer is real and it matters, but Scripture never lets us separate praying for the hungry from feeding them. James warns against telling a hungry person to be warm and filled while doing nothing. So pray, and let the prayer move your hands and your budget. Even small, consistent action, giving, volunteering, sharing with a neighbor, turns your compassion into bread on someone's plate.
