You said yes to a place that is not home, to a language that fights your tongue, to a work whose fruit you may not see for years. There is the loneliness of being far from everyone who knew you before, the slow grind of building trust, the spiritual weight of ground that has never heard the good news, and the ordinary struggles of visas, funding, and homesickness that no support letter captures. Some days the doors open; many days they seem shut. Whether you are on the field now, preparing to go, or holding on in a hard season far from home, this prayer is for you. Father, You sent me, and some days that is the only thing I am sure of. Meet me in this far place. Guard my going and my staying; provide what I need and open the doors only You can open. Give me love for these people that runs deeper than my discomfort, patience for slow soil, and words that carry Your good news clearly in a tongue not my own. When I am lonely and far from all that is familiar, be nearer than home. When I see little fruit, help me trust the harvest to You. Protect my family and my health. Keep me humble, so I bring You and not myself. Where there is danger, be my shield, for You said fear thou not; I am with thee. Use my small obedience for Your great purpose. In the name of Jesus, amen.
How to pray this
Pray this on the field, on the plane, or in the quiet of a lonely night far away. Your marching orders are Jesus' own: go ye therefore, and teach all nations, with the promise attached, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. When you feel small and unqualified, remember Paul's question, how shall they preach, except they be sent, and how beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace. And when fear rises in a hard or dangerous place, God's word to you is, fear thou not; for I am with thee, I will strengthen thee. You are not sent alone; lean on your sending church, your team, and your supporters, and let them carry this with you in prayer.
The One who hears this prayer
Jesus Himself left home. He crossed the great distance from heaven to a world that did not receive Him, and He knows what it is to be a stranger among the people you came to love. When He sent His followers out, He did not send them empty; He promised His own presence to the end of the world. He wept over cities that would not listen and kept loving them anyway. When your work feels slow and your heart feels far from home, remember He is not watching from a distance; He is with you always, in the very words of His promise. The harvest is His, the field is His, and you are His, even at the ends of the earth.

How do I keep going when I see so little fruit after so long?
Faithfulness, not visible results, is what God asks of you, and the fruit is His to give. You may be planting in soil someone else will harvest years from now, and that is not failure; it is how the kingdom often grows. Keep sowing the gospel of peace and trust the increase to God. Talk honestly with your team and sending church about the discouragement. Jesus promised His presence to the end of the world, not a quick harvest. Your labor in His name is never wasted, even when you cannot see it.
The loneliness of the field is overwhelming. How do I cope?
The loneliness is one of the heaviest and least-talked-about costs of missions, and God does not overlook it. He promised to be with you always, nearer than the home you miss. Do not carry the isolation silently; stay connected to your team, your sending church, and people back home, even across the distance. Ask God for local friendships and be patient as trust is built. Let yourself grieve what you left. He who left heaven for us understands what it is to be far from home, and He is with you.
I am afraid for my safety where God has sent me. Is that a lack of faith?
No. Fear in real danger is human, and God meets it rather than scolding it. His word to the fearful is direct: fear thou not; for I am with thee, I will strengthen thee, I will uphold thee. Take wise precautions, listen to your sending organization, and do not be reckless; courage is not the same as carelessness. Then entrust your safety to the God who sent you. He does not promise the road will be easy, but He promises His presence on it, to the very end of the world.
