A Prayer for Christmas

Father, thank You for Christmas, for the night when heaven came down and You gave us Your Son. In the middle of the lights and the noise and the long list of things to do, quiet me enough to remember what this day actually holds. Thank You that unto us a child was born, that You did not stay far off but came near, into our world, into our need. Let the wonder of it reach me again, not as an old story but as good news for right now. Fill my home with the peace the angels sang, and where there is sorrow or an empty chair this year, come close. Help me to give my attention to the ones I love and to the Child at the center of it all. Let Christ, not the shopping or the stress, be what this Christmas is about. In the name of Jesus, amen.
