Who Was the Apostle Peter?

In short

Peter was a fisherman whom Jesus called to follow Him and become a leader among the apostles. Bold and impulsive, he walked on water, confessed Jesus as the Christ, and yet denied Him three times.

After the resurrection, Jesus restored him, and Peter preached the sermon at Pentecost that launched the early church. His story is one of failure met by grace.

“And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
