The waiting before surgery can be the hardest part: the unknowns, the fear, the loss of control. Whether it is you or someone you love, you are not in the hands of the surgeon alone. These verses are for the anxious hours before an operation, to steady your heart in God.
What God says over the day of surgery
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”
Come to Jesus, weary and heavy laden, and He will give you rest.
Where this all leads
You are about to place your body in the hands of others, but your life is always in the hands of God. Jesus knows what it is to face a fearful hour and to pray 'not my will but Yours.' He is with you in the waiting room and the operating room. Whatever the outcome, you are held by the One who conquered death itself.
Lord, I am afraid, and I bring my fear to You. Steady my heart and give me Your peace that passes understanding. Guide the hands of the surgeons and every person caring for me. Watch over me while I sleep, and bring me safely through. I trust myself into Your hands. In Jesus name, amen.
