Bible Verses for a First Day of School
New teachers, new classmates, and butterflies in the stomach. Whether you are a student facing it or a parent sending your child off, first days can be scary. These verses are for the first day of school, to bring courage, peace, and the reminder that God goes with you into that classroom.
What God says over a first day of school
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid, for God is with you.
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
Fear not, for I am with you; I will strengthen and help you.
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.
“Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”
Be strong; He will not fail you nor forsake you.
“For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.”
The Lord gives wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
God has good plans for you this school year, a future and a hope.
“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”
You are fearfully and wonderfully made, just as you are.
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Let your light shine among your classmates and teachers.
“But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.”
Fear not; He has called you by name; you are His.
Where this all leads
God does not send you into that classroom alone; He walks in with you. Jesus loves children and welcomed them close, and He knows every nervous first day. Whatever the year holds, you belong to Him, He calls you by name, and He will be with you at every desk and every recess.

A prayer for a first day of school
Lord, thank You for a new school year. Take away the butterflies and give courage and peace. Help me learn, make good friends, and be kind. Remind me that You are with me even when I am nervous. Let me shine Your light this year. In Jesus name, amen.
You were never meant to walk this alone
The family here will pray with you, and you can hear how Christ has met others in the same place.
