A Prayer for Anxiety

When your mind will not slow down and worry sits heavy on your chest, you do not have to carry it alone. Here is a prayer you can pray, and a family ready to pray it with you.

Father, my mind is racing and my heart is heavy.

I bring You every fear I am holding, the ones I can name and the ones I cannot.

Quiet the noise. Steady my breathing. Remind me that You are near.

I trade my anxiety for Your peace, the peace that guards my heart in Christ Jesus.

Hold me through this hour. Amen.

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7

You don’t have to pray alone

On The Living Bread you can ask the family of God to pray for you and watch prayers be answered, or pray for someone else who needs it today. It is free, and you are welcome exactly as you are.

Questions people ask

What Scripture is a prayer for anxiety built on?

It rests on Philippians 4:6-7. The prayer above is written in plain words around that passage, and the verse is quoted from the stored text, not from memory.

What if I have no words to pray for anxiety?

Start with the first line of the prayer above and stop there if that is all you can say. God hears the first honest sentence. You can also ask the family of God on The Living Bread to pray with you and for you.

Can I pray this for someone else?

Yes. Change the first person to their name and pray the same lines for them. Praying for others is part of loving one another, and you can ask the family of God to join you.

Pray this

Lord Jesus, you see Anxiety and you know every person there by name. We bring you anxiety, peace, loneliness. Make us people who love one another there. In the name of Jesus, amen.

Live this

Take one step this week.

  1. Pray the lines above once today, out loud if you can, and read Philippians 4:6-7 in your own Bible.
  2. Tell one trusted person that you are praying about anxiety, and ask them to pray with you.
  3. Write down one thing you notice this week, so that you can thank God by name when it comes.

Where this fits in the walk with Christ

Nothing here is a finish line. It is one door into a life with Christ and with His people.
