God’s Promises for Rest

To the weary and burdened, God promises rest, real rest for the soul, found in coming to Jesus.

God does not promise a life without labor, but He promises rest within it, a settled soul that trusts Him with what we cannot carry.

He invites the exhausted to come, and He promises to give rest, not as a reward for the strong but as a gift to the tired.

What God promises, in His own words

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”

Matthew 11:28-29 · King James Version (public domain)

“And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.”

Exodus 33:14 · King James Version (public domain)

“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul.”

Psalm 23:2-3 · King James Version (public domain)

“There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.”

Hebrews 4:9 · King James Version (public domain)

How this points to Jesus

Jesus finished the work of salvation so that we can stop striving to earn God's favor and simply rest in Him. Every promise of rest is yes in Christ, our true Sabbath. Come to Him, and He will give your soul the rest it has been longing for.
