God’s Promises for Marriage
God promises to bless and sustain marriages built on Him, joining two into one and holding them with a bond not easily broken.
God designed marriage and promises to be present in it, weaving a threefold cord that is not quickly broken when He is at the center.
He gives grace for the hard seasons and blesses covenant faithfulness. What God has joined together, He also promises to help hold together.
What God promises, in His own words
“And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”
Ecclesiastes 4:12 · King James Version (public domain)
“Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”
Genesis 2:24 · King James Version (public domain)
“What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.”
Mark 10:9 · King James Version (public domain)
“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.”
Ephesians 5:25 · King James Version (public domain)
How this points to Jesus
Marriage is a picture of Christ and His bride, the Church, whom He loves with unbreakable faithfulness. Every promise for marriage is yes in Him. When our love falls short, His love supplies what we lack, and His grace holds together what we cannot.
