Bible verse

Psalm 51:10

Psalm 51:10

“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”

Psalm 51:10 (King James Version (public domain))

What it means

This is the prayer of someone who knows he cannot scrub his own heart clean, so he asks God to create what he could never manufacture. It is honest about failure and hopeful about mercy in the same breath. The gospel answers this ancient longing, for what David could only ask, Christ came to accomplish, making new hearts out of broken ones. If you feel stained today, you are not too far gone. The God who made the world from nothing can make something clean in you.
