Bible verse

Proverbs 15:1

Proverbs 15:1

“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”

Proverbs 15:1 (King James Version (public domain))

What it means

A tender answer can cool a rising fire, while sharp words feed it. So much depends on the small choice of tone in a heated moment. This is quiet wisdom for marriages, friendships, and every strained conversation. Jesus lived it, answering accusers with restraint and blessing rather than retaliation. His gentleness was never weakness; it was strength under control. When His Spirit softens our speech, we carry a little of His peace into the room and leave more healing than harm behind.
