Bible Verses for the Sick
Illness is lonely and wearying, and it can make God feel far away. Whether this is a passing sickness or a long fight, you are not forgotten. These verses are for the one who is unwell and needs comfort, hope, and the nearness of God.
What God says over the sick
“The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness.”
The Lord strengthens you on your bed of illness and sustains you.
“Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise.”
Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me and I shall be saved.
“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
The Lord is near the brokenhearted when your body has broken down.
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
Fear not, for I am with you; I will strengthen and uphold you.
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Come to Jesus, weary and heavy laden, and He will give you rest.
“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
His grace is sufficient; His strength is perfect in your weakness.
“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;”
Bless the Lord, who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.
“He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.”
He gives power to the faint and strength to those with no might.
“Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.”
Let the elders pray over you and anoint you; the prayer of faith saves.
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
A day is coming when God wipes every tear and there is no more pain.
Where this all leads
Jesus spent much of His ministry among the sick, and He never turned one away. By His wounds we are healed. Whether He heals your body now or waits until the day He makes all things new, He is with you in the illness, and He has already defeated the last enemy. You are held.

A prayer for the sick
Lord, You see my body and my weariness. If it is Your will, heal me, and either way, be near. Give me strength for today, peace in the pain, and hope beyond it. Thank You that You never leave the sick alone. I trust myself to You. In Jesus name, amen.
You were never meant to walk this alone
