Bible Verses for Prisoners
Walls can hold your body, but they cannot keep out the God who came to set captives free. Whatever brought you here, you are not beyond His reach or His mercy. These verses are for the one who is incarcerated and needs to know that grace goes into every cell.
What God says over those who are incarcerated
“Which executeth judgment for the oppressed: which giveth food to the hungry. The LORD looseth the prisoners:”
The Lord looses the prisoners and gives food to the hungry.
“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;”
He was sent to proclaim liberty to the captives and open the prison.
“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
If the Son sets you free, you shall be free indeed, even here.
“Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.”
God remembers those in bonds; you are not out of His sight.
“Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name: the righteous shall compass me about; for thou shalt deal bountifully with me.”
Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise Your name.
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
There is now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
In Christ you are a new creation; the old is passed away.
“And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.”
Paul and Silas sang in prison, and God shook the doors open.
“As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.”
As far as the east is from the west, He removes your sins from you.
“And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.”
The thief beside Jesus was promised paradise that very day.
Where this all leads
Jesus was arrested, tried, and executed like a criminal, and beside Him a guilty man found paradise in his final hour. No sentence you carry is heavier than His mercy. He offers a freedom that no release date can give and no wall can take: forgiveness, a new heart, and a future. You can be free on the inside today.

A prayer for those who are incarcerated
Lord Jesus, You came to set captives free. I bring You everything I have done and everything done to me. Forgive me, make me new, and free my soul even inside these walls. Give me hope, a future, and Your presence. Thank You that I am not beyond Your reach. Amen.
