Bible Verses for Grandparents
You have loved, lost, learned, and now you get to pour it all into the next generation. Your prayers and your faith can shape grandchildren for a lifetime. These verses are for grandparents who want to finish well and leave a legacy that outlasts them.
What God says over grandparents
“Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.”
Children's children are the crown of the aged; grandchildren are a glory.
“Now also when I am old and greyheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.”
Even in old age, do not forsake me, that I may show Your strength to the next generation.
“When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.”
A grandmother's faith, like Lois, passed down through the family.
“Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons;”
Teach God's works to your children and your children's children.
“They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;”
They shall still bring forth fruit in old age, full of sap and green.
“One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.”
One generation shall praise Your works to another and declare Your mighty acts.
“A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.”
A good person leaves an inheritance to their children's children.
“That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;”
The older teach the younger by their example and their words.
“And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.”
Even to your old age and gray hairs, God carries and delivers you.
“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord, for generations to come.
Where this all leads
The faith you carry can jump generations. Timothy's living faith began with his grandmother Lois. Jesus is the inheritance worth more than any money you could leave: a Savior you can introduce to your grandchildren by your prayers, your words, and your life. Finish your race pointing them to Him.

A prayer for grandparents
Lord, thank You for the gift of grandchildren. Let my life and my prayers point them to You. Keep me fruitful in these years, and use my faith to bless generations I may never fully see. Help me finish well and leave a legacy of knowing You. In Jesus name, amen.
