A tiny person has turned your world upside down. You are running on no sleep, awed and terrified, sure you love them and unsure you know what you are doing. These verses are for new parents who need grace for the learning curve and confidence in the God who gave you this child.
What God says over new parents
“Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.”
Children are a heritage from the Lord; this baby is His gift to you.
“He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.”
He gently leads those with young; He sets the pace for exhausted parents.
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”
When you have no idea what you are doing, ask God for wisdom; He gives it.
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Do not be anxious; take your fears to God and receive His peace.
“And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.”
You will get to teach this child about God in a thousand small moments.
“For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”
God knit this child together; they are fearfully and wonderfully made.
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Come to Jesus, weary one, and find rest in the sleepless season.
“It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
His mercies are new every morning, as new as this baby, every day.
“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
Wait on the Lord and He renews the strength these days require.
“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.”
There is no greater joy than to see your children walk in truth.
Where this all leads
God entrusted His own Son to two overwhelmed young parents in a stable, so He understands exactly where you are. He does not expect you to be perfect; He offers to help. Bring your exhaustion and your fears to Jesus, and raise this little one by leaning on the Father who gave them to you.

A prayer for new parents
Lord, thank You for this precious child. I am tired and unsure, so please give me wisdom, patience, and rest. Help me love this baby the way You love me. Cover our home with Your peace, and grow us as parents. This child is Yours; help us raise them for You. In Jesus name, amen.
