Bible Verses for Miscarriage and the Loss of a Baby
The loss of a baby, however early, is the loss of a real child you already loved. The grief is deep and often unseen by others. These verses are for parents grieving a miscarriage or the loss of a baby, to hold your sorrow gently and point you to the God who holds your little one.
What God says over the loss of a baby
“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
The Lord is near the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
“But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.”
David said of his child, I shall go to him; there is reunion ahead.
“For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.”
God knit this child together and saw their days; they were fully known.
“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
“He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.”
He gathers the lambs and carries them close to His heart.
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
A day is coming when God wipes every tear and death is no more.
“But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”
Suffer the little children to come unto Me; of such is the kingdom.
“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”
The Father of mercies comforts us in all our tribulation.
“Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?”
God keeps count of your tossings and stores your tears in His bottle.
Where this all leads
Your baby was fully known and loved by God, formed by His hands, and now safe in His care. Jesus welcomed little children and said the kingdom belongs to such as these. He gathers the lambs and holds them close. Your tears are not wasted; He collects every one. And for those in Christ, there is a reunion coming where death and grief are undone forever.

A prayer for the loss of a baby
Lord, my arms and heart are empty, and this grief is so deep. Hold my little one close to Yourself, and hold me in my sorrow. Thank You that You know and love my child fully. Comfort me when others do not understand, and carry me toward the day of no more tears. In Jesus name, amen.
