Losing a pet is losing a member of the family: a faithful, uncomplicated love that met you at the door every day. The grief is real, even if others do not understand it. These verses are for the loss of a beloved pet, to comfort you and lift your eyes to the Creator who cares for all He has made.
What God says over the loss of a beloved pet
“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
The Lord is near the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
“And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.”
A righteous person regards the life of their animal.
“O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches. So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts.”
The earth is full of the creatures God made in wisdom.
“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”
The God of all comfort comforts us in all our sorrow.
Where this all leads
God made the animals and called them good, and not one sparrow falls without His notice. The love you shared with your companion was a small gift from a good Creator. Your grief is not silly to Him; He is near the brokenhearted over every loss. Bring your sorrow to Jesus, the God of all comfort, who cares about every part of the life He gave you.
Lord, thank You for the gift of my companion and the love we shared. My heart is heavy with the loss. Comfort me in this grief, even when others do not understand it. Thank You that You care for all You have made, and that You are near the brokenhearted. In Jesus name, amen.
