The list is too long, the pressure too high, and it all feels like it is crashing in at once. You do not know where to even begin. These verses are for when you are overwhelmed, to slow your racing heart and remind you that God is bigger than the mountain in front of you.
What God says over feeling overwhelmed
“From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”
Come to Jesus, all who are heavy laden, and find rest.
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Be anxious for nothing; in prayer, His peace will guard you.
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;”
Cast all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you.
“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
In the multitude of my anxious thoughts, Your comforts delight my soul.
Where this all leads
When your heart is overwhelmed, you do not have to climb the mountain alone; you can be led to the Rock that is higher than you. Jesus invites you to hand Him the whole impossible pile and take just the next step. You cannot carry it all, and you were never meant to. Cast it on Him; He cares for you and He will sustain you.
Lord, it is all too much and I do not know where to start. I bring You the whole overwhelming weight of it. Lead me to the Rock higher than I. Quiet my racing heart, help me take one step at a time, and carry what I cannot. I trust You with all of it. In Jesus name, amen.
You were never meant to walk this alone
The family here will pray with you, and you can hear how Christ has met others in the same place.
What is a good Bible verse when you are overwhelmed?
Psalm 61:2 ('when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I') and Matthew 11:28 are perfect when life feels like too much, along with 1 Peter 5:7.
What does the Bible say about feeling overwhelmed?
It invites us to bring the whole burden to God, casting our care on Him because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7), to pray instead of worry (Philippians 4:6-7), and to take one day at a time (Matthew 6:34).
