God’s Promises for Forgiveness

God promises to forgive all who come to Him, to cleanse the guilty and remove their sins as far as the east is from the west.

No sin is too great for God's promised mercy. He pledges that if we confess, He is faithful and just to forgive and to cleanse us completely.

He promises not only to forgive but to forget, to remember our sins no more. In Christ the record against us is wiped clean.

What God promises, in His own words

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

1 John 1:9 · King James Version (public domain)

“As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.”

Psalm 103:12 · King James Version (public domain)

“Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”

Isaiah 1:18 · King James Version (public domain)

“He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.”

Micah 7:19 · King James Version (public domain)

How this points to Jesus

Every promise of forgiveness is sealed by the blood of Jesus, shed for the remission of sins. He bore our guilt so that God could justly forgive us. In Christ, the pardon is complete and free, and there is no condemnation left for those who are His.
