Epiphany

What Is Epiphany?

Epiphany celebrates the revealing of Jesus to the whole world, remembered above all in the visit of the wise men who came from far away to worship the newborn King.

Epiphany, kept on January 6, means 'manifestation' or 'appearing.' It celebrates that Jesus came not for one people only but for the whole world. The wise men from the east, following a star, were among the first from far away to seek Him out and fall down in worship.

The season that follows dwells on the ways Jesus was revealed as God's own Son, including His baptism and His first miracle at Cana. It is a season of light: the good news going out to all nations, and every seeker welcomed to come and worship.

“And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.”
