What Must I Do to Be Saved?
This is the oldest and most urgent question, and it once was asked by a frightened jailer who fell down before two prisoners and cried out, what must I do to be saved? Their answer was not a list of religious tasks. It was a Person. And the same answer holds for you. You are not required to fix your life, earn your forgiveness, or prove your sincerity through hard labor. You are asked to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and receive what He has already done. What must you do to be saved? Come to Jesus. Trust Him. That is the door, and it is open.

The good news, plainly
When the jailer asked, the answer came at once: believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved. Believing here is not merely agreeing that Jesus existed; it is trusting Him with your whole self, resting your hope on Him rather than on your own record. The Bible pairs this with turning to God, what it calls repentance: repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out. So the answer is trust and turn: trust Jesus who died and rose for you, and turn from going your own way to follow Him. You can do both, right now, in a single honest prayer.
What this means for you
Notice what you are not told to do. You are not told to make amends first, to feel a certain amount of sorrow, or to wait until you are strong enough. Salvation is not a reward for cleaning yourself up; it is the power that begins the cleaning. To be saved is to be moved, as Scripture says, from death unto life, forgiven completely and brought into God's family. And the change that follows, a new heart, new desires, a new direction, is His gift and His work, not a bill you must pay in advance. Your part is to come. His part is to save. He has never once failed to keep that promise.
Come to him now
The reason the answer is so simple is that Jesus already did the hard part. He was made to be sin for us, who knew no sin, so that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. On the cross He paid what you could never pay; in rising He opened a life you could never earn. So when the Bible says believe and be saved, it is not making light of sin; it is pointing you to the One who fully dealt with it. There is nothing left for you to add. Come to Him empty-handed and trusting, and you will find that His hands were full all along.

Is it really that simple, just believe?
The receiving is simple because the cost was not. Jesus paid it in full. True believing is trusting Him with your life, which naturally turns you toward Him and away from your old way. It is simple to enter, and it changes everything that follows.
What is repentance, and do I have to do it?
Repentance means turning: away from running your own life and toward God. It is part of coming to Jesus, but it is more like coming home than grovelling. You do not have to manufacture perfect sorrow; you simply turn, honestly, and He receives you.
What if I have asked before but nothing seemed to change?
You can come again, sincerely, and rest on His promise rather than on a past feeling. Salvation is not earned by intensity. If today you truly trust Jesus and turn to Him, His promise to save stands, whatever happened before.
