The Beatitudes · Matthew 5
Blessed are the poor in spirit
“Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Jesus, in the Sermon on the Mount · King James Version (public domain)
What it means
The kingdom begins not with the strong but with those empty enough to know they need God. To be poor in spirit is to come with open, honest hands, aware you cannot save yourself. That admission is not the end of hope; it is the door of the kingdom.
Take it in
Read the whole Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5 to 7) on The Living Bread, ask Simon anything you wonder about, and let this blessing reshape what you call a good life. You are welcome exactly as you are.
