The words of Jesus
What Did Jesus Say About Generosity?
Jesus spoke of giving as a joy, not a loss, and promised that open hands are met by an open heaven. Here is what He said about generosity.
“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom.”
Jesus, in Luke 6:38, King James Version
God will not be out-given; generosity comes back overflowing.
“Freely ye have received, freely give.”
Jesus, in Matthew 10:8, King James Version
We give freely because we were first given to freely.
“It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
Jesus, in Acts 20:35, King James Version
There is a deeper joy in giving than in getting.
“Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.”
Jesus, in Matthew 5:42, King James Version
Open-handedness marks the children of God.
“But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth.”
Jesus, in Matthew 6:3, King James Version
The best giving seeks no audience.
Come to Him
Jesus gave the greatest gift of all, holding nothing back. Every generous act is a small echo of His self-giving love, and He teaches us to hold everything with open hands.
His words were always meant to lead you to Himself. You can begin with Jesus here, ask someone to pray with you, or read His words in the Bible.
