Bible Verses for Nurses
You spend your hours where other people would rather not look: beside pain, beside fear, beside the dying, often when the world is asleep. It is holy work, and it is tiring work. These verses are for the nurse who has poured out and needs filling again.
What God says over nurses
“And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”
The care you give the sick, Jesus receives as given to Him.
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
When compassion runs thin, you have not lost your reward; keep going.
“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
For the strength that outlasts a double shift, wait on the Lord.
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
The invitation for the weary is spoken directly to you.
“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”
The comfort God pours into you becomes comfort you carry to others.
“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;”
Every chart, every round, every kindness is done unto the Lord.
“My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.”
Your help does not come from your own reserves but from the Maker of heaven.
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
Cast the weight of the ward, and the patients you cannot save, on Him.
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
When the right call is not clear, lean on Him and He will direct.
“For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
Jesus Himself came not to be served but to serve; you follow Him closely.
Where this all leads
Jesus touched the leper, stopped for the bleeding woman, and wept at a graveside. The Great Physician is not distant from a hospital; He is at home there. When you have nothing left to give, He is the One who healed and who still heals, and He offers to carry you as you carry others.

A prayer for nurses
Lord Jesus, You see the ones I care for and You see me. Give me steady hands, a kind voice, and strength that is not my own. Where I cannot heal, let me comfort. Where I am empty, fill me. Carry me through this shift, and let those in my care feel Your mercy through mine. Amen.
