Bible Verses for Soldiers and the Military
You stand where danger is real and home is far away. You carry orders, fear, and things you cannot un-see. These verses are for the soldier who needs courage that does not depend on the circumstances, and peace that follows into the field.
What God says over soldiers
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
Be strong and of a good courage; the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”
The one who dwells in the secret place of the Most High rests under His shadow.
“For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.”
The Lord goes with you to fight for you against your enemies.
“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
The Lord is your light and salvation; whom shall you fear?
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
God is a very present help in trouble, near when trouble is nearest.
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
Fear not, for I am with you; I will strengthen you and hold you up.
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”
Though you walk through the valley of the shadow of death, you fear no evil.
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
Put on the whole armour of God; your deepest battle is spiritual.
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
Greater love has no man than to lay down his life; your sacrifice is understood.
Where this all leads
Jesus commended a Roman soldier as having greater faith than He had found in all Israel. He knows the courage your work demands, and He laid down His own life in the greatest act of sacrifice in history. Whatever field you stand on, He has already gone ahead of you into death, and come back.

A prayer for soldiers
Lord, be my shield and my strength. Where I am afraid, steady me. Guard my mind from what I have seen and keep my heart soft. Protect the ones beside me and the ones I love back home. Bring me safely through, and hold me close whatever comes. In Jesus name, amen.
