Bible Verses for Leaders

Leadership looks like influence and feels like weight. People are watching, decisions land on you, and it is lonely at the top more often than anyone admits. These verses are for the leader who needs wisdom, humility, and a strength that is not their own.

What God says over leaders

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
Trust the Lord rather than your own understanding for every decision.
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”
Ask God for the wisdom leadership constantly demands; He gives freely.
“But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.”
True greatness in God's kingdom is servanthood, not status.
“He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”
Do justly, love mercy, walk humbly; the character of a godly leader.
“Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.”
Lead in lowliness, esteeming others and looking to their interests.
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
Be strong and courageous; God is with you as you go before others.
“Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.”
In the multitude of counsellors there is safety; do not lead alone.
“Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our LORD: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”
The joy of the Lord is your strength when the load is heavy.
“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
Waiting on the Lord renews the strength leadership drains.
“Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.”
Lead willingly, not for gain, being an example rather than a boss.

Where this all leads

Jesus, the King of kings, washed feet. He led by laying His life down, and He calls the greatest to be the servant of all. Bring the weight you carry to Him; He led perfectly, He leads you still, and He offers His strength for the load you were never meant to bear alone.
