Bible Verses for Chaplains

You carry the presence of God into hospitals, prisons, military units, and disaster zones, meeting people at their most broken. It is sacred work that can drain you dry. These verses are for chaplains, to fill you as you pour out and steady you in the hardest rooms.

What God says over chaplains

“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”
The God of all comfort comforts you, so you comfort others.
“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;”
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me to bind up the brokenhearted.
“Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.”
I was sick, in prison, and you came to Me; you meet Jesus there.
“The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.”
God gives the learned tongue to speak a word to the weary.
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”
Even in the valley of the shadow, you walk with people, and God with you.
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
Be strong and courageous; the Lord is with you in every hard room.
“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.”
Be ready in season and out to speak the word.
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Come to Jesus, weary one, and find rest for your own soul.
“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
The Lord is near the brokenhearted; you carry that nearness to them.
“Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.”
Weep with those who weep; your presence is a ministry.

Where this all leads

You bring the presence of God into rooms where hope is thin, and often the greatest thing you offer is simply Jesus with skin on: showing up, listening, praying. He is the One who binds up the brokenhearted, and He goes with you into every hard place. Let Him refill your own soul as you spend it for others.

A prayer for chaplains

Lord, You send me into rooms full of pain, and I cannot carry it in my own strength. Fill me with Your comfort so I can comfort others. Give me words for the weary and presence for the grieving. Refill my soul when I am poured out. Meet people through me. In Jesus name, amen.
