Bible Verses for an Adoption Day
Today a child becomes forever part of a family, chosen, wanted, and home at last. It is one of the closest pictures of the gospel there is. These verses are for an adoption day, to celebrate the joy and to see in it the very heart of God, who adopts us as His own.
What God says over an adoption day
“Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,”
God predestined us for adoption as His children through Jesus Christ.
“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.”
You received the Spirit of adoption, by which we cry, Abba, Father.
“A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation. God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.”

God sent His Son that we might receive the adoption of sons.
“When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.”
When father and mother forsake, the Lord takes me up.
“But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.”
Fear not; I have called you by name; you are Mine.
“For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”
This child was known and formed by God, wonderfully made.
“The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.”
The Lord rejoices over you with singing; welcome home.
“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.”
Behold what love, that we should be called the children of God.
Where this all leads
Adoption is the gospel in miniature. God did not have to make you His child; He chose to, at the cost of His own Son, so that orphans by sin could be welcomed home forever. Every adoption day echoes that greater one. This child is chosen and home, and it is a living picture of how God has chosen and welcomed us in Christ.

A prayer for an adoption day
Father, what a joyful day. Thank You for bringing this child home into a family. Let them always know they are chosen, wanted, and loved. Bind us together in Your love, and let this adoption remind us how You adopted us as Your own. Bless this new family. In Jesus name, amen.
