Bible Verses for Burnout

You have given and given until there is nothing left. The passion is gone, the tank is empty, and even good things feel like too much. These verses are for burnout, to give you permission to rest and to refill you at the only Source that never runs dry.

What God says over burnout

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”
Come to Jesus, weary and burdened, and He will give you rest.
“He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
He gives power to the faint; those who wait renew their strength.
“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”
He makes you lie down in green pastures and restores your soul.
“And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.”
Come apart and rest a while; Jesus called even the busy to withdraw.
“And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.”
My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.
“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Be still and know that He is God; you can stop striving.
“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
His grace is sufficient; His strength is perfect in your weakness.
“For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul.”
He satisfies the weary soul and replenishes the sorrowful.
“Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.”
My soul waits in silence for God; from Him comes my rest.
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
Do not lose heart; in due season you will reap if you do not give up.

Where this all leads

Burnout is often the body and soul crying out for a rest you were not giving them. Jesus is not a taskmaster piling more on your shoulders; He is the One who says, come to Me and rest. He made you to need rest, and He offers His own presence as the place to find it. Lay the load down at His feet and let Him restore your soul.

A prayer for burnout

Lord, I am worn out, and I do not even feel like myself anymore. I lay down the weight I have been carrying. Restore my soul, refill what is empty, and teach me to rest in You. Show me what to release. Let me find my strength in You again. In Jesus name, amen.
