Living with a condition that will not simply go away is a quiet, daily battle the world rarely sees. Some days you are strong; some days you can barely go on. These verses are for those with chronic illness, to steady you for the long road and remind you that God is in it with you.
What God says over chronic illness
“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
His grace is sufficient; His strength is perfect in weakness.
“For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;”
My flesh and heart may fail, but God is my strength forever.
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”
Let the testing of your faith work patience and completeness.
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
A day is coming with no more pain, no more sickness, no more tears.
Where this all leads
Chronic illness is a long obedience, and God's grace is measured out new for it every morning. Jesus knows suffering that does not lift on demand; He prayed three times in a garden. His grace is enough for today, and His strength is made perfect precisely where you are weakest. And He promises a body, and a world, made whole at last. You are not forgotten in the long fight.
Lord, this illness is heavy and unrelenting, and some days I do not know how to keep going. Give me grace sufficient for today and strength when mine fails. Be near in the pain, renew me within, and hold my hope steady. Thank You for the day when all will be made whole. In Jesus name, amen.
