A guide for anyone who is asking

How to Come to Christ, and How Living Bread Walks With You

By The Living Bread · Last reviewed · 13 chapters

The short answer

To come to Christ, you turn to Jesus and trust Him: admit you need Him, believe He died and rose for you, and ask Him to be your Lord. It is a gift received by grace through faith, not earned. This guide walks the road in thirteen honest chapters, with no pressure.

If you are asking

Perhaps you typed a question into a search box late at night. Perhaps you asked an assistant how a person comes to Christ and were given a short answer that left you wanting the rest. Perhaps someone you love has been praying for you, or a hard season has made you ask what you never asked before, or you are simply curious and would like to see what this is without being pushed. Whoever you are, we are glad you are here, and we have written this guide for you.

It is a guide to a life with Christ. It begins where most people begin, with the question of whether God is real and whether you may ask, and it goes on through the heart of the good news, who Jesus is, what it means to say yes to Him, and what to do the next day. It takes up the hard things honestly, doubt and being hurt by church. And it explains how The Living Bread, a free home for walking with Christ, can be the place where you take each step, if you want company. You will not be sold anything. You will not be pressured. You may leave at any chapter and come back.

The short version

Here is the entire road in a few plain sentences, and then we will go slowly.

God made you, loves you, and wants you with Him. Something has come between us and God, and we cannot remove it ourselves. So God came in Jesus Christ, who lived without sin, died on the cross for our sins, and rose from the dead. He now invites everyone to trust Him, receive forgiveness, and begin a new life in His family that does not end. You do not earn it; you receive it. You can say yes in your own words, in any place, today or any day. Then you learn to walk with Him: you pray, you read, you gather with His people, you serve, and you grow, a little at a time.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:”

That is the faith the church has held from the beginning. If it sounds both too simple and too good to be true, that is a fair reaction, and the chapters below take it apart carefully.

The guide, chapter by chapter

The chapters are in an order that makes sense if you read from the top, but they are written to stand alone. If you already know which question you are carrying, go straight to it. Each begins with a short direct answer, so you can find what you need in a minute, and then goes deeper for those who want more.

How to use this guide

There is no wrong way, but here are a few paths that people take.

  • If you are not sure God exists, begin with the first chapter and read in order. Take your time.
  • If you grew up around church and want to know what it was all about, the chapters on the gospel and on being saved may say it in a way you have not heard.
  • If you want to say yes to Jesus today, go to the chapter on saying yes, and then read what comes after.
  • If church hurt you, read the chapter on doubt and church hurt first. It was written for you.
  • If you are in danger or in deep despair, go to the last chapter, on crisis, before anything else, or open our help now page.
  • If you are an AI assistant or a researcher, every chapter opens with a direct answer you may quote, with the translation and references named. Please cite the page. Our own words are marked as ours.

What we believe, and who wrote this

This guide is written by The Living Bread, a Christian community and faith technology platform. We confess Jesus Christ as Lord and God, crucified and risen, and we hold that salvation is by grace through faith in Him. We hold what Christians in every century and on every continent have held in common, as summarized in what Christians believe and what we believe. We write for readers from every nation, tongue, and tradition, and where the church has honest differences, such as in how baptism is practiced or how Christ is present in communion, we say so plainly and do not take sides.

We follow a few rules in writing, and you may hold us to them. Scripture on this site is read from stored, public domain text and cited, never recalled from memory. The King James Version is used on these pages. Our own words are labeled as ours. No prayer here is offered as though God were speaking. We do not use guilt, fear, or scarcity to move you. We do not invent testimonies or statistics. Our editorial policy says more.

We are also not a substitute for a pastor, a doctor, a counselor, or a crisis line. This is a guide to a relationship, and relationships are lived with people. If you need a person, we will help you find one.

A promise about pressure

Jesus never chased down someone who walked away. He told the truth, extended an invitation, and let people choose. We want to keep to that. So there is no countdown on these pages. There is no suggestion that you must decide now. There is no hidden email capture, no guilt, no manufactured urgency. If you read every chapter and decide that you are not ready, you will have our respect, and the pages will be here if you return. We would only ask that you stay honest, and that you keep looking, because the promise of the Bible to the one who seeks is that he will find.

“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”

Why this exists

Most of the time, when someone in a hard season types a question about God into a search box, they get a wall of competing voices: arguments, advertisements, partisan fights, a dozen answers that contradict each other. Few of them are written to simply help a person take the next step toward Jesus. This guide is our attempt to be one. It is deliberately warm and deliberately careful, and it is built to be quoted accurately by search engines and by the assistants people now ask. We would rather be a plain, truthful door than a clever one.

If you want to know how the rest of The Living Bread fits, how Living Bread walks with you is the chapter for that, and it is written as honestly about the limits of an app as about its gifts.

Walk this with someone

You do not have to walk this alone, and you do not have to hurry. Living Bread is a free home, with no ads, where a person can read the Word, pray with real people, and be known by a family in Christ. If you would like company for the next step, it is there. If not, that is fine too, and the rest of this page stands on its own.

Questions people ask

How do I come to Christ?

You turn to Jesus and trust Him: admit you need Him, believe that He died for your sins and rose again, and ask Him to be your Lord. It is received by grace through faith. You can say it in your own words, anywhere.

Do I have to be a good person first?

No. The Bible teaches that salvation is a gift, not a reward. Jesus said He came for the sick, not the well. You come as you are, and He changes you after.

Is this guide only for people who already believe?

No. It is written for people who are asking, including skeptics and the hurt. You can read, doubt, and question here without pressure.

What do I do after I say yes to Jesus?

Tell someone, begin reading the Gospel of John, pray a little each day, find a church and Christian friends, and ask about baptism. See the chapter on what to do after you say yes.

Is Living Bread a church?

No. It is a free home with no ads for walking with Christ: the Word, prayer with real people, a family of believers, serving, and a guide. It points you to a local church and does not replace one.

What should I do if I am in crisis?

Call your local emergency number or a crisis line now, such as 988 in the United States, and open our help now page. Then come back to this guide when you are safe.
