How to Be Saved

To be saved is to be rescued by God from sin and death and brought into forgiveness and eternal life. It is the greatest gift there is, and it is offered freely to you today.

  1. Know that you need rescue

Salvation is for those who see they cannot save themselves. All of us have sinned and need God's mercy.

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”Romans 3:23, King James Version

  2. Know that God has provided the way

You do not save yourself by trying harder. God sent Jesus to do the rescuing, paying for sin with His own life.

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”Romans 5:8, King James Version

  3. Believe and confess Jesus

Salvation comes by trusting that Jesus died and rose for you, and confessing Him as Lord.

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart ... thou shalt be saved.”Romans 10:9, King James Version

  4. Receive it as a gift

You cannot earn salvation; you receive it. It is grace, given freely, taken hold of by faith.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith ... it is the gift of God: Not of works.”Ephesians 2:8-9, King James Version

  5. Call on the Lord

Salvation is as near as a sincere prayer. Turn to Jesus and ask Him to save you; He turns no one away.

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”Romans 10:13, King James Version

The One who makes this possible: Jesus

Jesus is salvation. His very name means the Lord saves, and He accomplished the rescue by His death and resurrection. To be saved is not to reach God by climbing but to be carried home by the One who came down to find you. If you turn to Him today, you will not be turned away.

You are not meant to carry this alone. You can ask someone to pray with you, find people near you, or, if you would like a gentle place to begin, start with Jesus here.

Common questions

How can I be saved?

Recognize that you need rescue from sin, believe that Jesus died and rose to save you, confess Him as Lord, and call on Him in prayer to save you. Salvation is God's free gift, received by faith rather than earned by good works.

What is the prayer to be saved?

There is no magic wording, but you can pray sincerely: admit you have sinned, believe Jesus died and rose for you, and ask Him to forgive you and be your Lord and Savior. The Bible says whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Can I lose my salvation?

Christians hold differing views, but Scripture gives great assurance that God keeps those who are truly His, and nothing can pluck them from His hand. Salvation rests on Christ's finished work and God's faithfulness, not on your performance.
