What Is Advent?

Advent is the season of waiting and hope that leads up to Christmas, anticipating the coming of Christ, both His birth and His return.

Advent means 'coming.' In the weeks before Christmas, Christians remember the long ages that longed for a Savior, and prepare their hearts to welcome Him again. It is a season of hope in the darkness, because the Light has come, and is coming still.

Many mark it with candles, each week's flame a growing brightness, as the world waits for the dawn.

“The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.”
