What Jesus is really saying
Jesus refuses to let us settle for managing our behavior while the heart stays untouched. He locates our real trouble inside, which sounds like bad news until we hear His remedy: He does not merely clean the outside of the cup but offers a new heart altogether. He goes for the root, because He means to make us truly whole.
Who these words reveal Him to be
He looks straight into the heart, where only God can see, and He offers to make it new. Jesus does not merely diagnose our inner ruin; He is the Savior who gives a clean heart and the Lord in whom the pure in heart shall see God. This is the God who searches us and the Physician who heals us, one and the same. To give Him your heart is to give it to its Maker and its cure.
Come to Him
You cannot scrub your own heart clean, but Jesus can make it new. Bring Him the inside, the part no one else sees, and let Him give you a pure heart that finally sees God.
